reading response

I have not yet gotten my book in the mail so I’ll talk about the research process for my memory paper. The topic is the barbaro accident that happened in 2006 in the Preakness race. There are 3 different races most people are familiar with the Kentucky derby but there is also the Belmont and Preakness all three add up to the triple crown, when a horse wins the triple crown it’s a big deal. There have only been a handful of horses to win it and the last one was back in the 80’s. I was excited to find that I was rough on the details so I actually had research to do when I started the process. The year was fuzzy in my head I wasn’t sure if it was 2008 or 2006 but as I researched some old magazine articles and online sport websites they went into a lot of depth about this horse. He was an American hero in 2006 and everyone seemed to love this horse.  When he fell in that race everything stood still and it was a race against time to get the horse into the hospital and fix his leg. Barbaro had broken his right rear ankle a similar break that had put down the racing filly Ruffian and ended her career. The research for this paper probably will not be very difficult but at the same time it will be hard to diversify my sources from online and newspaper articles. When the accident actually happened this horse was on the front cover of every newspaper in America and he has many books written about him so I’m quite certain that later I read the pages in the book we were assigned I’ll have a better idea of how to research correctly.
